There is nothing that says summer like the smell of 16 kids entering a room wearing sunscreen! Please, if you get this message before sending your kids to school today (and for Tuesday and Field Day on Wednesday as well), apply sunscreen to all exposed skin before they come to school in the morning. Also, if you can send in a hat with a brim (baseball cap, etc.) and even sunglasses to keep the sun off their face, that helps as well. It is going to be HOT outside and inside as well. Let’s try to keep long hair up and feel free to send in a water bottle (labeled with your child’s name) for easy access to water to remain hydrated throughout the day. We have a water fountain in the room but having a water bottle is a quicker way for everyone to get a drink at the same time, and it serves as a good reminder to drink often. Thank you!
Since KM was the class with the highest percentage of participation in the March “Strive for Five” campaign, we will be having our extra P.E. class with Miss Cook tomorrow. Please wear your sneakers!
The Kindergarten students of Mrs. Monteiro’s class cordially invite you to an Authors’ Tea to listen to our writing pieces and celebrate what we have learned. Friday, June 13, 2008 at 9 o’clock in the morning. Beverages of tea, juice, and water will be provided. We hope that each student will have one family member or family friend to read to that morning. And in the interest of seating space, please no more than 2 adults and younger siblings.
I hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off yesterday! At least the weather was beautiful! I, on the other hand, did not have the day off as I was representing Westwood at the DOE’s annual Kindergarten Networking Conference in Marlborough. The Keynote speakers were very interesting to listen to and I saw great examples of non-fiction writing done in Kindergarten classrooms around the state. I also attended a workshop on blogging to keep up school/family communication! It made me feel good to know that I’m at the forefront of using this technology to communicate with parents.
Well, thankfully, the water damage did not effect our classroom so other than having some specials displaced this week (Phy. Ed. will be outside today, library will be in our classroom on Friday), KM is not really impacted much at all. Miss Hadalski talked to the whole school this morning about the damage and they were instructed not to touch any of the special “drying out” equipment around the building.
We are beginning a small unit on money this week in Social Studies. Today we learned a Money poem that goes like this:
Five pennies make a nickle
Two nickels make a dime
Two dimes and a nickel
Make a quarter every time.
Four quarters make a dollar
And that is quite a lot
And a dollar is exactly
How much money I have got!
Muffins with Mom will take place in the cafeteria for K-2 this coming Tuesday, May 6 from 8:00-8:30! The notice didn’t get placed on my desk until after the kids left for the day today and I wanted to be sure everyone was aware so you were not hearing about it for the first time on Monday afternoon!
