Greetings Visitors!
Welcome to my Kindergarten classroom web page! I’m Mrs. Amy Monteiro. The 2011-2012 school year is my 18th year working in early childhood education and 12th year teaching Kindergarten (11th in Westwood). I created this page to quickly and easily communicate back-and-forth with the families of the children in my class and I welcome anyone to post comments and questions to me (or to the other families) through this site. Please check back often to stay up to date with what’s going on in our classroom. You can subscribe through an rss feed reader (feed button is at the bottom left hand corner of this page) or below to receive posts via email. I’m looking forward to another fun year in KM!

Nice to be recognized…
...although it was only by some silly teacher website with no real credence. Now if it was awarded by the MTA or NEA, this button would appear right at the top of the page!

Your child is bringing home a plastic cup today. While this may seem odd, when you ask your child to tell you about Mr. Steve who visited our classroom this afternoon to do some science experiments with us, you will understand what the cup is for. Have fun playing with water this weekend!

The kids are bringing home a 3-D Shape Hunt homework paper tonight. This is totally optional and certainly not expected back tomorrow. If you choose to do this activity with your child, please try to get it back to me by the end of the week. Thanks!

First, conferences are coming up soon. As you read in the Sheehan News, they will be on the afternoon of April 7 and the afternoon and evening of April 14. Please drop me a comment, or an email, or a note in your child’s VIP tomorrow to let me know which day is better for you and if the 14th is better, let me know if you would prefer afternoon or evening. Once I receive everyone’s request, I’ll assign times and will send home a confirmation. I’d like to get the confirmations home by Wednesday and back by Friday to give me plenty of time to make changes if necessary. Please also note that evening times are typically in high demand so if you were given an evening conference in the fall, you will not be given an evening conference in the spring.

Second, it is with great sadness that I announce that Tuesday will be Mrs. Hanlon’s last day in our classroom. She will be going back to the preschool full time on Wednesday. The children will be making Thank You cards for her in class tomorrow and we will be creating a small class gift for her that will be presented to her on Tuesday.

Online ordering is all set for the Scholastic Book Orders. I’ll leave it open until Monday afternoon. And in case anyone is wondering, if you are looking at ordering books from the Just-Right Nonfiction form, most of the kids in our class are reading books in the A-D range (meaning they would be able to read many of the words in these books but not all, the pictures are highly supportive of the text, and many will have repetitive patterns that will help them figure out tricky words). A few kids are ready for E and F books as well. Hope that helps when ordering books that kids can can or soon will be able to read independently, or with just a little help.

I’m going to be at a literacy conference today and tomorrow  at Lesley University with Mrs. Truman and Mrs. P. The kids and Mrs. Holbrook are prepared and I expect the days to go smoothly. I just realized that Mrs. Holbrook sent home the book club order this week and I have not set up the ordering online. I will stop by school this morning for the information I need and will get it set up by this evening. Due to my mistake, I will leave the order open until Monday. And as a reminder, the login is mrsmonteiro and the password is Sheehan (with a capital S). Have a great weekend!
