November 20 will be a Patriots Spirit Day. Dress in your Patriots gear or Patriots colors (red, white, and blue).
A reminder from the student council to please dress warm for school as the weather is getting cold. In fact, in our classroom it can be chilly when it is warm out or HOT when it is cold out so it would be best to dress in layers (t-shirt, sweater/sweatshirt, and a coat, hat, and mittens/gloves for outside). Also, since more and more layers are coming in and being taken off throughout the day, please be sure to LABEL EVERYTHING! I can’t tell you how many items end up in lost and found every year and even when I find them in our classroom and hold them up for someone to claim, amnesia takes over and no one knows who the items belong to!
The student council is looking for ideas for a G rated movie to show for Movie Night. Talk to your kids and gather some ideas and post them in the comments. Thanks!
The School Store that was supposed to be last Friday was postponed until this Friday. Please be sure, if you are going to send money to school with your child, that you send it in a small zip top baggie or envelope with their NAME on it and SCHOOL STORE and place it in the VIP. We will collect all the money in the morning so that it does not get lost and we will give it back to the kids at lunch time when they will have the opportunity to shop. The limit is $5 but any amount between $.50 and $5 is fine.
The November student council service project is Turkeys for America. Kids can bring in money to donate. We have a collection container in our classroom.
We are also collecting Box Tops. Last round, our class lost out on a pizza party by just 10 or so box tops! This round we can win a hot cocoa and cookie party which Mrs. Holbrook is so excited about! Let’s bring in those box tops between now and Dec. 15!
I keep coming across fun little activities that I’d love to do at school but (still) just don’t have time for with all of the other curriculum items we need to cover. So I’ve attached a neat little November calendar activity you can do at home with your kids. It is a great way to keep kids busy if you have to keep them home due to a cold! novcal.pdf
We have been working a lot with rhyming words this week. For some fun practice, print out the .pdf pages at the end of this post, cut out the cards and use them to play some fun games. Mix them up and turn them all face down and play concentration finding rhyming matches or deal out 5 cards to each player and play go fish asking for words that rhyme with the cards in your hand. These games will work better if you can print them on colored paper (so you can’t see through the paper) or glue them to construction paper. Enjoy!
Today report cards are coming home in the VIP’s of those children whose parent/teacher conferences are this Wednesday. Typically I send home a pre-conference questionnaire about a week before the conference for parents to fill out. Because conferences sort of snuck up on me this year, I’m just getting the questionnaires out today. If you have a conference with me this week, could you please try to get the questionnaire back to me tomorrow? I’m sorry for such a short turn-around time. If your conference is not until the 18th, please try to get it back to me by the 12th. Thanks! Also, if you’re not sure when your conference is, please email me or check the calendar on my website (I’m updating it now)! You should look for your child’s initials on the calendar!
