Greetings Visitors!
Welcome to my Kindergarten classroom web page! I’m Mrs. Amy Monteiro. The 2011-2012 school year is my 18th year working in early childhood education and 12th year teaching Kindergarten (11th in Westwood). I created this page to quickly and easily communicate back-and-forth with the families of the children in my class and I welcome anyone to post comments and questions to me (or to the other families) through this site. Please check back often to stay up to date with what’s going on in our classroom. You can subscribe through an rss feed reader (feed button is at the bottom left hand corner of this page) or below to receive posts via email. I’m looking forward to another fun year in KM!

Nice to be recognized…
...although it was only by some silly teacher website with no real credence. Now if it was awarded by the MTA or NEA, this button would appear right at the top of the page!

I hope you all have a fun and relaxing weekend! Thank you for coming to the performance today. The kids did a great job.

I’m working on finding a better way of uploading pictures to the photo gallery page. The way I must do it now is so slow that I rarely have time to get them all up. Hopefully Mr. Monteiro will be able to help me out and I’ll be able to share more pictures with you soon.

If your child will not be attending school next Wednesday due to holiday travel plans, please drop me an email so that I know who will not be there to say their line in the performance! It will be easier for the remaining kids to practice if we know who won’t be there. Thanks, and enjoy the weekend!

I’m sending home 2 letter games today because they are very similar and I’m guessing will be fairly easy for most of the children. Play which ever one you think is most appropriate for your child. If the games are still challenging for your child, keep them for a few weeks and see how much your child improves over the coming weeks as we continue to do a lot of work with these letters here at school as well.

On Wednesday, November 25 (the day before Thanksgiving) the Kindergarten students will be performing a few songs and poems in the cafeteria at 11:00. Parents and families are invited to come (including any family that you might have visiting from out of town). A more formal invitation will be coming home on Monday but thought I’d let you know as soon as possible in case work schedules need to be rearranged.

Today Officer Pindell visited our class to talk to the kids about school bus safety. He also talked about safety at the school bus stops and how to evacuate a school bus in an emergency. We then got to climb on a school bus and practice safely evacuating by jumping out of the back door. Ask your child to tell you all about the experience.

As a follow up to that discussion and as a preview of Monday’s Lock Down Drill, we will be talking about Lock Downs this afternoon. we will talk about a few (not too scary) reasons why we might have a lock down and what will happen and how they are to behave during a lock down. We will practice in our classroom today in preparation for a whole school drill on Monday.
