Did we even have school today? I feel like I hardly saw the kids! The morning started with lining up, shortest to tallest, for our class pictures and then changing to an alphabetical line for our individual pictures. Then the children met Mr. Hagel in the Art room for their first Art class, then we had a quick snack and morning meeting, and they were off to the Library with Mrs. Jourdan, and out to recess. By the time they came in again, it was time to pack up mail and prepare for dismissal! What a crazy day. They all looked beautiful for their pictures though with great big smiles! We don’t have a “special” class tomorrow so I look forward to spending time with them then. Have a good evening.
Today we opened the Sand and Playdough Centers. They also checked out new books from the library. Ask your child if they learned a good way of keeping track of where books belong while they are finding one to check out in Mrs. Jourdan’s library. Enjoy reading the new library books this week and don’t forget to return them next Friday so a new one can be checked out. We have a safe place in the classroom to keep library books if you want to return yours early to be sure you have it for library class next Friday.
Monday is picture day! We will be taking a class photo and individual pictures first thing Monday morning. Don’t forget your envelopes and your smiles!
Today we had a fire drill. Some of the kids were a bit nervous in anticipation of the noise of the bell but when it finally happened, everyone did really great. We all got outside quickly and quietly. In the classroom the children learned about the Listening Center. Ask them to tell you how they know which button on the tape player means play, which means stop, and which means rewind. They also met Miss Cook, the physical education teacher. She wanted me to remind you all that they should wear sneakers to school every Thursday!
The PTA would like everyone to start collecting Box Tops. We will keep a folder in the classroom to collect all of the Box Tops our kids bring in so send them to school in your child’s VIP. The class that collects the most will win a pizza party! Let’s win this contest to earn money for our school but more importantly, to show all the big kids that K kids can compete!
Today we opened the classroom library. Ask your child how to figure out where we put books away in our classroom. We also counted the students in our class. See if your child can remember how many kids we counted! Recess was a lot of fun today. We are always thankful when the weather allows us to get outside and burn off some energy. During Writers’ Workshop we started a classroom name chart to help us learn our friends names. It may take a while but soon these new friends will be old friends!
Today in KM we put together our crayon caddies in the Writing Center which we will use everyday. The children also drew beautiful pictures to hang out in the hallway. We learned about and explored some fun Math toys we will use this year and we practiced cleaning up. One friend shared something interesting he found at the beach this weekend. Ask you child what it was!
