I hate to feel like I’m beating a dead horse but please, please, PLEASE, send your child to school in snow boots every day until further notice! (Snow pants can’t hurt either!) Even though there is very little snow out there, the entire “grassy” area of the playground, including the entire perimeter of the blacktop, is completely covered in deep MUD. The only non-mud places to play are the blacktop and structure and you can’t even get to the structure without going through the mud! If your child does not have snow boots (or rain boots when they are appropriate on warmer days) they will not be allowed to leave the blacktop. We had a friend get their shoes STUCK in the mud today. Also, if they do not have another pair of shoes to change into after recess, they will not be allowed in the snow or mud with their boots because we can not have them tracking the mud through the classroom. Many children are coming home today with wet, muddy sneakers and wet pants up to their knees! This rule will be in effect throughout the winter and the early spring. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Also, I know from experience that this is easier for my son because he can leave his boots and snow pants at day care while my daughter can not leave them at her school. While I can not allow boots to stay at school simply because we do not have the storage space for them (the night custodian needs to be able to sweep/vacuum the area where they are kept during the day) it is fine with me if they leave their snow pants on their hook in the closet during the week. I will do my best to remind them to take them home on Fridays if there is snow in the forecast. I would just ask that you send me an email or comment here if you would like they to be allowed to leave them here during the week. Thank you!
This is the last week to donate blankets, sheets, and towel to the Dedham Animal Shelter. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you for participating in our School Spirit Days! Movie Day and Patriots Day were a great success!
Tomorrow is Black Out Day. Governor Deval Patrick named tomorrow, January 25th, No Name Calling Day. To show that you’re “blacking out” bullying, wear black. Support the cause of no name calling, no bullying, and no excluding others!
To all of you who are scheduled to be a Mystery Reader beginning next Monday through June, due to a scheduling change, I need to move our Mystery Reader time from Monday at 1:00 to Monday at 12:45. It is a small change but an important one to note! If this time is a problem for you, please let me know. There are a few families who have not had a turn yet who have contacted me about scheduling a time. Please check VIP’s today for the date that has been assigned to you.
Also, I just want to remind everyone that there is snow on the playground (even if it has been cleared from your driveways and sidewalks) and the children love to play in it! Please be sure to send snow boots to school every day through the winter. UGGS ARE NOT SNOW BOOTS! Also, please be sure that your child has another pair of shoes to wear IN school as snow boots track water and mud around and are not comfortable for all day wear. Also, if your child enjoys making snow angels or sliding down the snow banks that are outside, please also be sure that snow pants come to school each day. Thank you!
Today is Patriots Day at the Sheehan. Wear your jersey or just some red, white, and blue to show your support for the team!
Also, a letter is coming home in your child’s VIP today about the online Math software, IXL, that the kids have been using at school. Just like Lexia, now that they have become familiar with playing this game at school, they can begin playing this game at home as well. Simply follow the directions in the letter. Please remember that these games should be played without any help from an adult and should be limited to 15-20 minutes 2-3 times per week.
The January Service Project is collecting blankets, towels, and sheets for the Dedham Animal Shelter. Help keep the animals warm during these cold winter months!
Patriots Day is this Friday, January 13th. Wear your Patriots gear to school and help cheer on the Patriots!
The January Spirit Day is Movie Day. On Wednesday, January 18th, show your school spirit by coming to school dressed as your favorite movie character.
